Four years ago, I was honored and humbled to be elected as your Town Supervisor in a highly competitive election. Then in 2013 I was re-elected in another even more competitive race. For many people, this was a wake up call that our votes really do matter. To me, your vote symbolizes your trust in me and motivates me to work tirelessly to solve pressing problems while setting Orangetown on a sustainable path that benefits ALL Orangetown residents.
And things are looking up for our town. At a time when Rockland County has struggled to balance its budget and the federal government has suffered from political “gridlock,” in Orangetown we’ve kept our fiscal house in order. We’ve limited spending and kept taxes below New York’s 2% tax cap, all while preserving the critical public services that residents depend on. And while millions of Americans remain out of work, Orangetown’s economy is growing—we’re bringing in new business development throughout town, creating jobs, and stabilizing our tax base to reduce the burden on residents.
We’ve accomplished a lot in the last four years, but more work remains. In my third term I will work with New York State and private developers to find a suitable and appropriate use for the Rockland Psychiatric Center property. I will fight for improvements to the Town Code that will benefit public health and other areas. I will continue improving public access to town government. And most importantly, I will continue my fight to make Orangetown’s government more efficient and cost-effective so that we can keep our town an affordable and welcoming place to live and work.
Twenty years ago when my wife Rachel and I were ready to raise a family, we chose to move to Orangetown because we loved the active community life, the natural beauty, and the sense of history that set the town apart from other suburban communities. It has been the greatest privilege of my life to serve as your Supervisor and I ask for your support as I seek a third term to continue my work for our wonderful town.
